Knowledge of Relevant Documents, Policies and Procedures
 

•Perceptively interprets survey plans, architectural drawings, maps and legislation, especially Parts IV and V of the Ontario Heritage Act and Regulation 9/06 regarding the designation of properties

•Developed a series of mini-guides providing advice on how to restore and repair historic windows and for applying for heritage designation with the City of Ottawa

•Led and managed a team to create commercial street improvement strategy

•Reviewed, evaluated and made recommendations on development applications for impact on conservation districts, individually designated properties and World Heritage Resources

•Efficiently corresponded with recipients of grant funding to confirm projects and offer advice on heritage matters

 

 

Research, Analysis and Writing
 

•Independently conducted a pilot study for inventorying historic buildings in Ottawa leading to the development of a methodology for updating the City’s Heritage Reference List

•Documented and analyzed an urban neighborhood in Lachine, QC to make recommendations to guide future development and change as part of a team

•Comprehensively carried out architectural and historic research in order to evaluate the significance of properties that had been proposed for individual designation and as part of the preparation for a conservation district study

•Effectively drafted by-laws, district guidelines, statements of reason, historic plaques and reports and made presentations for city committees and council

 

 

Public Relations and Customer Service
 

•Facilitated public “pop-up” workshops which included interviews, surveys and coordination with various community groups

•Aided in hosting a public consultation meeting for the presentation of draft Conservation District plans and a new Cultural Heritage Character Area plan in Sandy Hill
